# Sound credits

Every clip on /animals is a real recording under a free licence — nothing here
is synthesised. Each entry names the file, the recording it came from, its
licence and the person who recorded it.

Clips were trimmed to a second or two and loudness-normalised (to -16 LUFS)
for this site. That processing makes them derivative works, which every
licence listed here permits.

## Public domain and CC0

No attribution is legally required for these, but crediting the people who
recorded them is the decent thing to do.

## Adding or replacing a clip

Drop an MP3 into this folder named after the animal's id (`dog.mp3`,
`lion.mp3`, …) and add it to the `CLIPS` map near the top of the script in
`../index.html`. Keep clips short — a second or two — and record the licence
and source above. To match the existing files:

Only use sources whose licence you can actually verify. Wikimedia Commons and
SoundBible both state a licence and an author per file — note that SoundBible
also carries Noncommercial and Personal Use material, which does not belong
here.
