Privacy Policy - Mise App

Welcome to Mise ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how the Mise recipe management app for iOS ("App") collects, uses, and protects your information. We are committed to your privacy and have designed Mise with a privacy-first approach.

1. Our Privacy Philosophy

Mise is built on a simple principle: your data belongs to you. By default, all your data is stored locally on your device. We do not require an account to use the App, and we do not sell, share, or monetize your personal data.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Data You Create

The App stores the following types of data that you create directly:

  • Recipes — titles, ingredients, instructions, photos, notes, tags, and other recipe metadata
  • Meal Plans — scheduled meals and associated recipe references
  • Grocery Lists — shopping items generated from recipes or added manually
  • Preferences — app settings, display preferences, and organizational choices

All of this data is stored locally on your device by default and never transmitted to our servers.

2.2 Imported Data

When you import recipes from websites or other sources, the import process happens directly on your device. The App fetches recipe data from the source URL using your device's network connection. We do not route imports through our servers or retain any imported content.

2.3 Basic Analytics

We collect minimal, anonymous usage analytics to help us improve the App. This includes:

  • App launch frequency and session duration
  • Feature usage patterns (e.g., which features are most popular)
  • App version and iOS version
  • Device type (e.g., iPhone, iPad)
  • Crash reports and performance data

This data is fully anonymized, cannot be linked to individual users, and is used solely to improve the App experience. No personal content (recipes, meal plans, etc.) is ever included in analytics.

2.4 What We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not collect your name, email address, or other personal identifiers (unless you contact us directly)
  • We do not track your location
  • We do not access your contacts, camera roll, or other device data beyond what you explicitly share with the App
  • We do not use third-party tracking SDKs or advertising frameworks

3. iCloud Sync (Pro Feature)

3.1 How It Works

Mise Pro users may optionally enable iCloud sync to keep their data synchronized across multiple Apple devices. When enabled:

  • Your recipes, meal plans, grocery lists, and preferences are synced via Apple's iCloud (CloudKit)
  • Data is transmitted and stored using Apple's encryption and security infrastructure
  • We do not operate our own sync servers — all synced data flows through Apple's iCloud service

3.2 Your Control

iCloud sync is off by default and must be explicitly enabled by you. You can disable sync at any time in the App's settings. Disabling sync keeps your data local to your device. Data already synced to iCloud can be managed through your Apple ID iCloud settings.

3.3 Apple's Privacy Practices

When iCloud sync is enabled, your data is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. Apple's CloudKit provides end-to-end encryption for data in transit and at rest.

4. Family Sharing (Pro Feature)

Mise Pro supports Apple's Family Sharing. When you share your Mise Pro subscription through Family Sharing:

  • Each family member's data remains separate and private by default
  • Shared recipe collections are only accessible to family members you explicitly invite
  • Family sharing is managed through Apple's Family Sharing infrastructure

5. Third-Party Services

5.1 No Advertising

Mise does not display advertisements and does not integrate any advertising SDKs or tracking frameworks.

5.2 No Third-Party Tracking

We do not use third-party analytics services that track you across apps or websites. We do not participate in data brokers or advertising networks.

5.3 App Store

Mise is distributed through the Apple App Store. Apple may collect certain data as described in Apple's Privacy Policy. Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple.

6. Data Storage and Security

  • Local Storage: Your data is stored in the App's sandboxed container on your device, protected by iOS security measures and your device passcode/biometric authentication.
  • iCloud Storage: If enabled, data stored in iCloud is protected by Apple's security infrastructure, including encryption in transit and at rest.
  • We do not operate external servers that store your personal data.

7. Your Rights and Controls

You have full control over your data:

  • Export: You can export your recipes and data at any time using the App's built-in export functionality.
  • Delete: You can delete individual recipes, meal plans, or grocery lists at any time. You can also delete all App data by removing the App from your device.
  • Sync Toggle: You can enable or disable iCloud sync at any time in Settings.
  • Analytics Opt-Out: You can opt out of anonymous analytics in the App's settings.

Since we do not maintain user accounts or store your personal data on our servers, there is no account to delete or personal data to request from us.

8. Children's Privacy

Mise does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). The App does not require an account and does not collect personal identifiers. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us through the contact email, please contact us so we can promptly delete it.

9. International Users

Mise is available worldwide. Since your data is stored locally on your device (or in your personal iCloud account if sync is enabled), your data remains under your control and within the infrastructure you choose. Our minimal analytics data is processed in compliance with applicable data protection laws, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, through an in-app notification. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
